Mystery Switch in YJ

I have a 1990 YJ with 6cyl and manual trans. There’s a rocker switch on the dash that appears to be factory but doesn’t seem to do anything. Anybody know what this is supposed to do before I trace wires to find out?

switches in that location could be for factory fog lights, rear hard top defrost and rear wiper.

Yeah,
If yours came factory with a hard top then for the rear wiper you would have a connector for power and washer just inside the rear quarter panel on the drivers side. If you have an owners manual—check that for more detail.

It’s also one of the things to check when buying—whether the hard top came original or you have an orphan rear wiper on the back.

The previous owner lived near me and owned it since 1994. It had a soft top all those years, but it does have the connector for the hardtop as I bought a used hardtop and it does plug in. But the switch may be bad because the rear wiper runs continuously when plugged up. I haven’t had time to trace wires but, maybe this weekend I’ll get to do that and I’ll let you guys know what I find. Thanks for the input!
