Need help! 1995 jeep wrangler

We put another motor in because the original blew. We have changed the starter, coil, distributor, crank shaft sensor, plugs, wires, distributor cap and when we try to start it just cranks and cranks. We are not get fire. We have power to the coil but nothing after the coil. And we have tried 3 different coils.

We are lost and don't know what is wrong or how to fix it.

Only time my YJ ever did this is when I ran out of gas right after I bought it. I didn't know the gas gage was stuck at full until after I got the jeep towed to the mechanic... I would think its a good sign that its cranking.

Check your fuel pressure. Also, the gizmo under the distributor cap is like a switch that opens and closes and causes the coil to create the spark that fires the plugs. My money (2 cents) is on that gizmo (sometimes called a pick-up or igniter) or the related wireing.
Good Luck, L.M.

Do you have the factory service manuals?
They have the diagnostic procedures that test everything in specific order so you get to the cause.

You might be able to search around. Occasionally people post excerpts from the factory manual. I don't recall the cost of the factory manual. Did you take high resolution pictures from every angle before the swap? Compare every picture. Does everything look the same?

Some factory manuals give the readings one would expect to see at the computer. Does the replacement engine have compression? Do you have a buddy with same vehicle/motor? Possible part swap back and forth to verify parts.

Yeah, chiltons and haynes are kinda limited in scope.

I get mine off ebay and Craigslist.

You can find paper manuals, pdf downloads, or cd copies. Also, if you are in a large enough town, the public library sometimes has them.

Look for the 93-95 drivetrain diagnostic manual. Its first chapter is a step by step diagnostic of no start conditions. About 60 pages.

Crank position sensor. The computer has to "see" about 400 rpm before it starts to do it's thing- controlling spark and fuel.

You really need the factory diagnostic book. Check for continuity between the head and the negative battery post.
