Question need yj help

Husband was driving home today (after off roading yeasterday) He said he heard a clunk, like it popped out of gear. It stalled out. He restarted it without a problem but it will not move. It will go through the gears without using the clutch. But will not move. Anyone have any ideas?

if it goes in and out of gears without having to use the clutch pedal, then you've got clutch problems. i'd start there and try to find the source of the "clunk." start at the fluid res and work down from there. you shouldn't be able to shift into any gear without the pedal depressed. taking it out of gear yes, but

Sounds like the clutch is stuck or broke. I'd look there first.

that was the only time my ford ranger clunked and left me stranded years ago... the throw out bearing wore so bad that it popped right off the front of the shaft. Had to be towed, new clutch, throw out bearing, etc... When it happened it also sprayed clutch fluid all over the hot plates so she went out in a cloud of white smoke that smelled like burning brakes

Was he in some deep mud.. if so might be the source of the clutch not working..
