never had a 4x4 before - maintenance question

is there normal maintenance needed on a 4x4 from a fluid standpoint

when buying a used vehicle, i like to change all fluids for peace of mind

obviously there is the oil and tranny fluid. what are the other fluids that can be changed on a 4x4 88 YJ ? rearend? whats in the front just the transfer case?

thanks!

1. oil
2. tranny
3. front end transfer case
4. rear end gearing

i need to try and track down a manual to see what goes into each. would like to put in some AMSOIL and be done with it

and then hit grease gun where you can. does anyone have info on the grease gun points on an 88 YJ? is that available anywhere?

From the 87-88 YJ Jeep FSM Manual:
1. oil 4 cyl 10W30,10w40. 6 cyl 5w30
2. tranny manual - AMC/Jeep/Renault gear lubricant or equivalent SAE
75W-90, API GL-5 quality gear lubricant.
3. Transfer case -Dexron II transmissionfluid
4. Axle front/rear -AMC/Jeep/Renault gear lubricant or equivalent SAE
75W-90, API GL-5 quality gear lubricant.

I have a PDF of this manual a member from another forum shared with me. I can get you a copy after I get back into the states in 2 weeks. with my current internet connection I will be home before it uploads to you.

Don't forget that you have an axle up front that also has fluids in it. A lot of newcomer 4x4 owners neglect this, because they're used to 2wd vehicles.
