New (old) jeep...first post

Been reading posts for 2 days and have learned a ton. I would like some input and thoughts on must do's for my YJ.

It's a '91 YJ, 4cyl, manual transmission, fuel injected. It has a little over 100,000 miles. It has 30x9.5x15" tires and approx. 2" lift. I have a hunting lease in central FL and will leave it there as my daily driver on the property. Sand, mud, water, you name it, it's there. I won't be bringing it home much, so I really want to go through it thoroughly before I take it up there. I am not planning on lifting it at this time, or changing tires (maybe next season). So all that said...

What oil should I begin using?

Should I change fluids in gear boxes, differential, etc.? How do I know if they need to be changed?

Anything else you think I should do or check, let me know as this is my first 4 wheel drive vehicle and my first jeep. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. I would change all the fluids in it if you do not know the history of the vehicle and the maintenance done to it. Better safe than sorry. I use 10w30 semi synthetic oil personally and have had no issues.

If the Jeep will be seeing a fair amount of water and mud, make sure you have good vent tubes on the axles and transmission. That is all I can think of at the moment. Now go and enjoy your new addiction called Jeep.

Thanks Jeff. Changed fluid in both differentials, transfer case, and motor oil. Didn't tackle the tranny fluid...yet. Saw what looks like a vent tube on the front differential. Will look for others to make sure they're attached, clear, etc. Russ
