New Old Ramsey REP8000 winch

I just purchased a Ramsey REP 8000 (made in USA) winch off of Craigs List. Paid a bit much for it (375.00), hope it is worth it. It is brand new in the box. I was told it is a couple years old. The photo on the front of the box was of a Jeep YJ . When I opened the accessory box (still stapled shut) there was a card to send in for a VHS safety video. I got curious so I called Ramsey and asked if they could tell me how old it is by the serial number. When I gave them the serial number they said it did not have enough digits, so I gave it again and the gal had me hold for a while and when she came back on the line she said it was manufactured in May 1989. Should be age appropriate for my 1990 YJ. I will install it next week, waiting for a mounting plate.

That's pretty cool. I hope it works well for you.

I once found an old CB radio at a garage sale from the late 70's that was NIB. I bought it for 10 bucks, never used it, then sold it on Ebay for more than what I paid.

Congrats! You may want to replace the wire rope and bolt that attaches it to the drum if it's that old and has been wound for a long, long time. It may have fatigue.

When I talked with a tech at Ramsey, he said it should not be a problem since it had never been unwound,,

I found a mounting plate at Promark on clearance for 34.99 free ship. It is made for the YJ, not a universal. Just finished making a mount for the solenoid box so I can mount it over the top of the motor. Hope it fits the winch mount...

That is cool that it fits the time period of the jeep. You couldn't have planned that to happen.

Thats neat. I was going to say that the REP8000 is chinese made. Same as the harbor freight PEW8000 that sells for $249.
USA made, and new in the box. You dont find stuff like that too often. Sounds like a collectors item!

I still have an old Uniden from the same era. I was using in it in a truck I had for a while, I've been meaning to put it in my Jeep. The antenna disappeared though, so I'll have to find another and get it tuned again.
