New to owning a Jeep!

I have a 1995 Jeep Wrangler (actually, my son's, but he's not driving it).
I know *nothing* at all about Jeeps, but I think this is a 'hobby' I may get attached too!!

It needs a new top.
I would like to get a hard top for her. The soft top on it now, leaks, doesn't zip right, etc...

I have no idea what is a quality top / what' the best price / where to find quality tops at a good price / or if I need a complete new frame also, or just a few parts. I don't want to get ripped off, and I don't want to buy junky stuff, or the wrong stuff.
Help, please?

good hardtops can be found on Craigslist for 200-400 dollars,
post a pick of whats broken on your soft top frame, there are a few parts that can be replaced individually. a new skin runs about 350 bucks.

These are photos inside and out of the Jeep!
I don't really know 'what' I am taking pictures of, and if I have missed something, let me know and I will go out and retake.

Thanks so much for your help!!

I found this on craigs list:

I have a Spice color hard top off a 1995 Rio Grande for sale, rear defrost, wiper, tinted windows and sun roof. The top is in great condition and comes with a one man lift and winch for removal. $500

Clean full doors with key and mirrors $400

All $850

Pictures look good.....
This is the exact same Jeep, I own.

What are the 'right' questions to ask to make sure I am not buying junk?
Thank so much for the help!!

It sounds like a pretty good deal to me....I picked up a rough topper and a set of doors for $400 here in Michigan, but both were in need of lots of TLC and paint. They look and operate well now, but weren't in the shape these items sound. The winch for the top is a bonus. $600-700--good deal

based on those pictures i would recommend getting a new top all together, it has some hardware i've not seen before. new including hardware will be about 700 bucks, or you can find a used ones on Craigslist for around 300 with good hardware and ok skins that will last a few seasons.

the hardtop sounds like a good deal. offer him 400 to start, 700 if you want the doors. be aware that if your jeep didn't come from the factory with a hard top the wiper/defroster won't work, you'll have to buy a wiring harness in addition to hook it up.

Thank you!
When you say "cracks" do you mean, "fell on the ground, crack" or "sun damage crack" or both?
And can 'cracks' be repaired?

I had to drive the Jeep to work yesterday (van was dead) and.....even though it had no air, and the soft top was banging around, and I had no mirrors to look out of.....
It was awesome.
I think I just might fall in love with this vehicle!!

Laura, welcome to your new addiction! The hard top and full steel doors are great. That's what I had on mine until recently, but I love it with a soft top now. Either way you will love it. The hard top requires no upkeep once it's installed. You just remove all the stuff that was required to hold the soft top on and you are good to go. Maybe put weatherstripping under the new top to seal it plus prevent rattles. I've had every kind of vehicle you can think of, but I'll never have anything else other than a JEEP now.

Sounds like your already in love with your boys Jeep .

Your top looks like a Bestop Supertop . I didn't see enough of the frame though .
I need to see above the doors with them open . I didnt see where you lived .
I would consider finding someone local to show you how the soft top works , and if the frame was usable I'd just buy a new skin . My wife takes my top off solo all the time .
