newbie back in the saddle

Hi. Joined the forum today just after I bought my project '87 YJ home. Needing some info. Mine has a stock 4.2 5 speed, & has starter issues. Gear doesn't seem to want to engage the flywheel straight on. Has a new ($300) high torque starter on it & Im not sure its installed correctly. Plans were to remove it & place a reman stock unit back on. Sound about right? Also I bought it with a hardtop which I believe is from a CJ (owner told me a TJ) but it has a frame around the back glass & keyed t handle on the hatch, no lights nor harness' on it. Did they make a plain jane top for a TJ? Looks like they all had vents behind the side glass & mostly glass only rear gates. Im looking for a set of hard doors & think I found some off a CJ that should work. Any idea? Thanks & glad to be back in the saddle.

Search this site as there are several threads on the starter differences between the 87 and other year YJs. Good luck.

There is a set of hard doors on Denver Craigslist.

Go to Denver CL
Click on auto parts in the main menu.
Then click on auto parts by owner only.
Then enter YJ in the search box and hit enter
Scroll down. Hard doors $500.00.

I would like to take a look at them, but Christmas is coming. Three kids, 7 grandkids and a young wife. HO! HO! HO!

Good Luck, L.M.
