Newbie needing assistance in Northern AZ!

Anyone in this forum live in Northern Arizona, more specifically in the Verde Valley area? I just picked up a pristine '95 Wrangler Rio Grande 2.5l 5spd with 39k original miles! Yes, 39,763!!! She runs great, just having one small issue. I am hearing a loud "clapping" noise coming from underneath the chassis. I say "clapping" because it's not a rattle, a thud, or a banging, sounds like sheet metal clapping. At first, thought it may be the exhaust, upon inspecting it, I found one of the insulation hangers on the muffle had torn off, replaced it, along with matching hanger on other side of the muffler, but the noise still persists. There is no increase/decrease when engine us revved/4wd/in gear, out of gear. Just happens every time there is a slight bump. If anyone in the Sedona/Cottonwood/Camp Verde area is up for helping a no0b out, it would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!
Chris Johns

NAZ, you lucky devil. if you go to the top of the threads page and click on the forums link. at the bottom of the page there is a list of state groups. might find someone there. i used to drive jeep tours in sedona and envey your access to some of the best off roading in the state. if you go to a repair shop i suggest high desert in sedona. ask for little john.

me on tour

In west phx. I won't be up there for a cpl weeks probably. Cottonwood specifically. Did you check your rear trac bar? Mine makes an annoying clap when going over bumps. Think it's just a bushing. Seeing as it isn't speed dependent I'd stick to looking in the rear. Good luck.
