observations, I think I'm getting old.

Ok, so I'm sitting in my Yj, killing time. (Daughter is in her orchestra practice ) and I just realized my jeeps dash lights shut off when I turn on my interior lights on. I have been driving this jeep forever, it's a 91, and never noticed this. Do all yj's do this? My tj's dont. Guess you can tell I'm board, but just wondering.

I don't think you're getting old, the Jeep's just getting better! If a problem like this is where your mind's wondering to, then the rest of the Jeep must be pretty dialed

To answer your question, my dash lights stay on. I'm guessing you're turning the dial on the dash next to the steering column all the way, and when it clicks/cams over to turn on the interior lights the dash lights turn off? Probably just that switch. I bought a new one because my dash lights didn't work, I think it was around $30. Easy enough to swap out, and one simple wiring plug to swap.

Yep, and the old yj works better than me at times! There is literally nothing that doesn't work in my ol yj. Can't say as much for the tj's. This 91 is like an extension of my arm. Like a tool to me, and never let's me down. I will say that I take better care of it than I do myself, but a 26 year old jeep, with no rust, and can still light up 33s is a rare bird.

Yeah, no mine stay on when I turn that little dial for interior lights... And from a 17 year old's point of view, almost everybody I meet with an old jeep is an older dude, but you're still cool in my eyes.

He's just getting old is all.
In another thread he claimed when he got up in the middle of the night the bathroom light came on by itself when he opened the door
and the bathroom light shut off by itself when he closed the door.

His wife read the thread and said, "Oh dear, he's peeing in the refrigerator again."

That's just the dimmer switch contacts. They are notorious for getting dirty/corroded.
If you cycle it rapidly they usually self clean. Or you can just replace it.
