Oh god not another new guy!

Yes, brand new guy who is restoring 1990 Wrangler. When I fill up the gas tank, I smell very strong gas odors. What's the problem?

Welcome to the forum!

Just check all the fuel lines. I've never had that problem but follow the fuel line either from the throttle body back to the tank or vice versa. Some tend to rust out in certain weather conditions. Lines won't be expensive to replace but of course.. be careful.

Jeeps are very simple vehicles, don't over think it. Even new guys can become good Jeep mechanics with a good curious george attitude.

Welcome, just for another thought, My buddy had a small hole in his tank but that leaked constantly. Not just when he filled up though.

First thing, pull inner cover in the wheel well right behind gas filler. Check the breather hose. Our '90 did the same thing and I found that the vent hose which will be above the filler hose was all cracked and rotten. Buy both hoses because chances are you will breack the filler hose trying to get it out of the way. Since you are restoring it change them all and also your vacuum hoses. will save you a lot of grief.

I had the same problem. The PO had the wrong gas cap on it - a $5 fix. Changed that and the smell went away.

You beat me to it!
I agree with Rob, this is where I would start too, then work your way forward.

Love your intro,
