Oil pressure 91 yj

Hi so this may be a stupid question but I just did an oil change on my new jeep I bought it's a 91 yj and when I did the oil change I used 6 qts of 10w-30 and now my gauge is saying my oil pressure is through the roof. What could cause this? I changed all the plugs wires and cap and the oil filter and removed the gauges and cleaned all the connectors and they are all working so I don't think it's the gauge but idk what else it could be it seems to be running the same it's a 4.0l but anyways please help and thank you for any feed back. ▪️|||||||▪️

Could be your oil pressure sending unit. You could try cleaning or replacing it.

Yeah, our vintage oil senders are due for replacement due to their age. Common ailment

Awesome thanks for the info I'll try that. Would you know how much that is to replace and how long it would take? ▪️|||||||▪️

No more than $30 probably less. About 5 min to change. Much like changing a spark plug.

Rockauto has them cheap, like $2 but of course shipping is $13. So maybe if you have a bunch of items.

Idk if this changes anything but even when I just turn the key to where the power comes on the oil gauge immediately goes all the way up. ▪️|||||||▪️

Not getting a signal from oil pressure switch... Mine did this, had to pull the gauge package and pull the gauge out and clean the contacts on the gauge and circuit card

you probably knocked the wire/connector off the sending unit.

it is about 6" behind the oil filter... has a big ole black connector that is probably covered in gunk...
just spray some carb cleaner/parts cleaner in and around it.. dry it off place some dielectric grease inside it, and orientate it correctly to slide/snap onto the sending unit and you will be good to go.

long arms help, flashlight helps... maybe get it from the bottom, but definately can from the top with a bit of a reach...
please let us know how it goes...

My wife's 91 Wrangler did the same thing. I replaced the sending unit and that fixed the problem. Be sure, when you replace the sending unit, the new one looks exactly the same as what you are replacing. There are several different ones out there.
