OK, I am gonna ask... whats the trick to filling my tank?

I have had my YJ for a year and I have yet to find station where I can pump gas without it shutting off if I hold the handle all the way down. I have to barely press the handle and it takes 10 minutes to fill my take at that rate. I figured it was just my YJ, then we got my wifes and it is the same dang thing. Whats the dealio?

If your gas port is next to your tire on the back, try putting the nozzle in normally and rotating it counter-clockwise to the three o'clock position. That is how I had to fill mine. It used to do the same thing. Very aggravating.

When gas goes in, air is supposed to come out. If the small port where the air is supposed to go out of is clogged, the air can't escape fast enough causing the gas to want to come out. When the gas tries to come out where you are filling the tank. it hits the thingy on the gas pump handle and it shuts off. Good chance the port is clogged, especially if you wheel.

you could clear the vent and fill it at 9 oclock should be able to crawl under car and look at filler neck and follow the vent see if its clogged

OK, I looked it up and saw pictures. Might try and do the 15-20 gallon conversion fix while I am down there.

These YJs have a very small fill tube. You cant gas up full blast. You need to curve the nozzle toward the tank and fight the damn license plate to hold it at the 3 oclock.

I have the same problem and I know for sure its not the vent. I have replaced the lines before when I did my fuel pump. From what j heard it's just the way the filler neck is set up that the gas doesn't run down fast enough and causes it to splash up at the nozzle and shutting it off. I heard that if you move the fill up location to the side like the new ones have that works. Other than that I just hold it and wait or try to find the sweet spot.

I relocated my filler to the side like a TJ and the pump doesn't shut off at all, even when it gets full. I have to pay close attention or I will have gas everywhere.
