Opinions? First Jeep, 95YJ

Hey all! So I am supposed to be picking up my new (to me) 95 YJ tomorrow!!! Exciting! I was more so trying to justify the "need" for this second vehicle that I has been a "want" since I was 7. The guy I'm buying from works with my boyfriend so I'm not worried he's selling me a death trap, but I was curious as to what you guys thought of the price.. I'm getting this for $2,000 cash (and exchange for some side work that my boyfriend is going to do on the guys mustang, maybe $400 worth of work). So for 2,400(ish).. what ya think?? 160k miles(I think), some rust(not on the frame), a lot of awesome.. Can I justify this as a definite necessity?! Or is that too much for him to be asking?

Go for it. A little TLC and you have a fun toy without a lot invested(for now). Appears to be rather unmolested, so you don't have to undo a lot of "southern engineering".

thats a pretty good price. i paid 2500 for mine about 9 years ago and it was in worse shape than that one on the inside. looks like its got a bit of rust needing fixed and maybe clean up the engine bay and you'd be set

I too think it is a good price. That rust spot you pictured is very popular. I have it on both sides.

Just watch 5th gear with that transmission. It is known to go out. Plenty of info on it online. You have the AX-5 trans.

Yeah, looks nice for the price. If you've wanted a jeep since you were 7, you need no other justification.

You may even be able to get that faded red paint to buff up nice with a little elbow grease, or take it to a detail shop.

You can definitely get that oxidized paint to shine again... Polishing compound, Polish and wax, maybe a clay bar to start if you really want to get after it. Ours was faded like that but looks great now after rubbing, scrubbing and polishing for a couple of days. Enjoy!

Yep my brother had a civic that was faded that bad. A few hours of buffing it it was brought back to life.

Congrats!
I picked up a 95 recently also and am loving it so far, it was in pretty good shape other than a few things here and there that I am slowly working on. Age is the biggest factor just go through it and check everything, change all the fluids and take the top off and ride!

95 is the best year to have. It has several upgraded parts that other YJs don't have. Good pickup.

Ditto that. I got a 95 from my son's buddy, unmolested except for some additional stereo gear that the seller kept so no problems there. It drives great, best of the 4 Jeeps I've owned over the years starting with an M38A1 military. Put new tires and belts on it and started climbing mountains with it.

Regarding her "faded red" paint: That appears to be a Rio Grande Edition, in the "rare" Bright Mango color. Speaking from experience, I have one. It needs similar amounts of TLC, but still going strong otherwise. Nearly 280K miles and counting.

Congrats on your new purchase. Good luck and have fun with it.
