opinon of this jeep? lookin for my first jeep

Jeep Wrangler Wrangler Sport | eBay

im in the market for my first jeep and this one has many features i really like, however it has a few miles on it. One thing i dont like is the height of the lift compared to the tires. would it be hard/possible to "lower" this jeep if i where to buy it? also what is the boards opinion of it. I like it but my wife thinks it looks like a mail jeep, and is 170k on the 4.0 too much?

thanks, sorry for all the newb questions

In my opinion:

Milage is not an issue. 170k is actually low miles for a 92 and the 4.0 has proven to be more than capable of high mileage.

Price is kinda high, so I'd expect NO issues other than 23 year old vehicle wear and tear.

That being said, I'd question the heck out of the fender and armor mods. Make sure it wasn't installed to mask a problem and make sure it isn't a trail rig cleaned up for sale.

It does look pretty clean in the photos - but suspicious.

Find out what fearing it has, figure out if it was being run with bigger tires and if there are other mods.

To lower it, you'd likely be looking at replacing leafs - fairly easy to do, research price for quality 2.5" and that would look good with 31's. Maybe 33's.

Again, just my opinion. I see a lot of for sale listings proudly indicating recent rebuilds. My concern with rebuilds is you don't really know what everybody considers to be a rebuild and you don't really know what you are getting. I also wonder what caused the need for a rebuild.

Obviously a quality rebuild could be a good thing.

I have 2 4.0's. (88 XJ and 92 YJ) neither have seen any "rebuild" and both run just fine. I think the XJ is around 180k and the YJ is at 210k miles.

I always worry about a jeep needing a rebuild so soon. Could be just bad luck, but I've got 220000 miles on my 4.0 and it still runs strong. Makes me wonder how the jeep was cared for. Also look for rust, I see some metal on the driver side hood and side that looks a little rough like it may have rust.

The rear leaf shackles look like they angled kinda far forward.

That thing is pretty roachy for that kinda cash. I wouldnt give 3 grand for that. Id be willing to bet all the mods on that thing are half assed. Pass.
