Painted Center Cap Inserts ....

So the master plan is to paint the YJ in mil-spec OD Green ..... and to make a faux military Jeep.

I cannot be the first to do this, am I ?????

Looking at the steel wheels, I had a set painted up and ready for tires.

Questioning wether to use center caps or not, after all military jeeps had no center caps ..... right?

Well I could do like everyone else and just slop paint all over everything, or I could do something different.

I decided to remove the center cap inserts and began playing and came up with this ....... ( on left is OEM insert with black background ... on right is OEM insert with OD Green background )

NOTES:
Used cracked inserts for this 'experiment'
Insert pics show color better.

As to full center cap, still thinking of total OD paint on center cap with OD green insert, or leaving center cap silver with OD green insert.

The full center cap might look good if it was a flat black. Either way, I wouldn't leave the full center cap silver, it'll be way to flashy for the military look.

Yeah, I am thinking of doing on in flat black, one in OD green .... putting them both on an OD green steel wheel and see what it will look like.

Proper look would be the base stock 9-hole rims.
Painted OD to match and no center cap(hub centers also painted), or, painted flat black with black center caps

I vote for baby moons. Except that would defeat the goal of faux military.

Remember KISS! OD wheels with flat black center caps.

As far as I know, there was never a military Jeep with rectangular headlights so you can do whatever suits your fancy and it'll be OK.

Good Luck, L.M.

OK, I should have said American military.

The military of Franistan must have bought all the YJ8s that were ever made.

The bottom Jeep is a YJ with round headlamps. All a guy needs are those special headlamp bezels. The cups should be universal.

Good Luck, L.M.

Good Luck, L.M.

Who says the YJ cannot have round headlights?

A little cutting, welding and marrying together parts from different vehicles and well ...... you get the idea.

But that mod is a way off ..... like next spring.

I gotta get the mechanicals straight first !!!!

I was bored last night and got the idea ...... sand off the black paint on the back of that insert and repaint it with the color of your choice.

Got a red Jeep .... paint the back red.

Those are Egyptian Army Rangers.

They have a factory in Cairo that assembles them from CKD kits
