Pexi-Glass Windshield option?

My windshield used to have a little chip in the center then one day it split into 4 quarters! I called around and it seems that "Jeep" windshields are pretty expensive so since it is not far removed from being a four wheeled flyswatter has anyone ever tried used using a non-breakable material for windshield? Not sure if it's legal or not but it may be worth "looking" into?

I called my insurance angling through their peeps its $200. I don't get it because I see ads for $99. Or less but when someone calls it goes by vehicular type.

Well thanks so far for those dollar amounts, the way I see it the next one will cracks just as easily as the first, so I am hell bent right now on this acrylic or pexi glass idea.

Its not legal. Cal law says it must be shatter resistant. The stock windshield has a plastic film between the inner and outer pieces. Acrylic or lexan will shatter into shards and cut you like so much sushi. We use it in race cars for lightness but it is dangerous stuff.

Has anyone ever gone to a junk yard and scavenged one? I think that would be the cheapest option. Additionally, the laborers at places like Safelite Auto Glass (i.e. - Big companies) will do 'side jobs' (cash payment), and pass along significant savings.

Plexi glass would be a nightmare to see out of within months. It's not very resilient when it comes to abrasion.

Why did you quote "Jeep" and "looking"?
