Potholes suck

I hit a pothole on my way to work the other night and this happened (sorry the pic is sideways, turn your head to the left...). Since I don't have any welding experience or equipment l I'm going to take it to a shop to have it repaired but I have two questions. First, is it ok to drive it to the shop or should I get it towed? The shop isn't that far away but the pothole situation in Columbus is pretty bad. Second, what should I expect to pay? Thanks for your help.

Its not going anywhere now so I would drive it, just be careful. They are gonna have to replace the spring...or should. Ive never seen anyone weld spring steel with any degree of certainty or accuracy. Plus springs are cheap...prolly 25 bucks for a used one.

You could limp there if it's only a few blocks, but I'd drive pretty slowly, and don't take turns quickly in any way, shape, or form.

When my shackle hanger went I decided to have it towed, but I was able to get that done for free so weigh your options.

as long as nothing is rubbing, you should be able to drive it to a shop... carefully.

No 80mph corners! hehe...

sorry, I can't tell from the pic, did the spring break or was it the hanger/shackle for the spring?

Thats the hanger not the spring. They key really is how bad is the rust around the area that the hanger is supposed to be in. Thats the front right corner. If the frame is really rusty there the rust will have to be fixed befor the new hanger can be welded on. Really cost depends on how long a shop would have in it.

Sorry mang.

it looks like it ripped the shackle hanger off the frame. it shouldnt cost much at all unless the frame is rusted bad enough for it to fall off like that just going down the road. it kinda looks like it has already been repaired before.
