Price of a amc 4.2

I don't know if this should be posted here but I have an amc 4.2l 258 engine for sale. It has an oil pan on it, the Hermonic balancer, valve cover and timing cover. I don't know how many miles are on it. I do have a video of it running before I pulled it out of my Jeep. Want to know how much this would be worth.

I bought a complete 4.2, AX15 trans and a basket case NP231 with a SYE for $250.00.
If I knew the motor was in as good a shape as it was, I'd not have disassembled it. There was nothing wrong with it that I could find. The PO pulled it to install a XJ 4.0.

That's a real bargain, I know. There isn't a lot of demand for 4.2s because the frame & body usually rust away before the motor wears out.

I'd start at $300.00 and see where it goes. Some guys want the crank to make a stroker motor. If I wanted just the crankshaft, I'd want to pull the pan and bearing caps to examine the journals.

Good Luck, L.M.

Yeah the bad news on the 4.2/4.0 is they last a long time (with proper service). Wait that's a good thing
Point being, they're usually not needed until they are....
And then when people start looking at swapping in another motor, they figure: why not go v8, diesel, stroker, etc? Since they're putting in a different motor anyway.
In fact, I've got my 4.2 listed in the classy's right now loaded with all the trimmings to (I'm thinking I'll be lucky to get $300 for it tbh). I know I won't get anywhere near what I have in it though. I'm considering picking up another yj/cj roller just to put my 4.2 in it just so I don't have my good 4.2 engine sitting around for the next couple years gathering dust.
