Has anyone sealed the plate around the shifter ? If so what did you use ?

I use a compound called duct seal. It's a dark gray compound found at the hardware store. Its used like plumber's putty for sealing around sink drains and such. You have to knead it in your hands to soften it, and then mold it around the shifter plate in a 1/4" bead, outside of the bolt holes. once you bolt it down it will squish out and is very easy to clean up by rubbing your finger around the edge.

The nice thing about this can take the plate back off, and still be able to reuse the seal. If you use silicone, its a bitch to get the plate off and then you need new to put it back together again.
