Roll Bar Integrity- Holes

I am looking for a family bar for my 90YJ. Someone in my area has one but says he's worried about the structural integrity of if because the PO drilled several holes in it. Is this something to be concerned about or should I go for it?

Not enough info......

Where, how many & what size are the holes.

I suppose if it's not too bad or rusty & the holes are manageable, they *might* be able to be welded closed in the right hands of a good welder.

There isn't any integrity in a stock roll bar without any holes in it. Its just there for show, or in other words...something to hook your bikini top to.

Its not a true roll bar, and shouldn't be thought of as anything but a bikini top holder. It has no strength, its bolted to the body, the front struts hook to the windshield frame, with all that said, if you do happen to roll, DUCK!!. Don't go with the misconception that you are protected because it has a so-called roll bar in it.

agreed!

If it's cheap I would buy it and put some new roll bar covers over it and enjoy! But yea if you get in a roll over situation as stated, duck!!!!!

I don't agree. A lot of engineering, testing, development goes into the factory bars to meet current safety standards.... when something fails and people die? Huge fines to the manufacturer..... Me, I'd worry far more about the fully welded kit cage put together by a self taught redneck welder... with no training or certification.

As to the OPs question.... any holes drilled are going to weaken it.... and no one on this forum will be able to say.... "It is safe do not worry".... Only an engineer who has actually seen, touched, analyzed it could think about saying something that stupid.

AND plenty of stock Jeeps get rolled daily... without injury.
