Shock choice with RE 4.5 extreme springs

What’s everyones opinion on shocks to run with RE 4.5 Extreme springs? Bilstien, RE mono tube, Rancho, Fox, etc...

Just installed RE springs yesterday and all I can say is wow. Only driven around town a little bit but what a difference. They raised my ride height about 1.5” and are much softer than the RC 4” springs. Still have the RC nitro 2.0 shocks on for now

Update your sig, lol.

Probably will look nicer saying “Bilstein” there too.

I'm running superlift and they're ok but I'll go w something different next time...
Several of the tj people rave about rancho 5000x (not 5000 but 5000x).... i have rancho 9000's on my lifted tj and they're a solid "meh".... on the softest setting they are stiffer than I'd prefer...

It's a YJ not a Lincoln...Get some Rancho 5000x and be done with it. Going to have to cycle the suspension with no shocks mounted and measure fully compressed and fully extended lengths to get the correct travel shocks

Agreed.

With that much lift, and depending wholly on how hard you drive it on the street along with the weight of the wheel and tire, the Bilstein’s in my experience are the best bang for the buck.

My friends who have less compliant springs, or drive like a Grandma, are happy as a lark with an oil filled shock. Those who drive hard or have a heavy 33” or 35” wheel and tire combo fare better with a quality nitrogen damper.

A good set of old fashioned twin tubes will give a very supple ride that tends to uptravel better and generally isn't as harsh...

I've never had bilstien shocks but it seems like I remember hearing that they tend to be pretty firm...

I would avoid any nitro shock

For now I have fairly new RC N2.0 shocks all with really good charge in them. I’ll see how these Gas charged shocks ride and if there pretty good I’ll upgrade to some Bilstein’s. If I feel the nitro shocks are harsh feeling I’ll go with some plain oil shocks.
