Sirius radio antenna

With FM radio reception crappy at best 25mi out of town, With my new stereo install I'm adding a SiriusXM antenna. Start reading the instructions (Yeah I do that Sometimes), Apparently antenna placement is key, so here's what they suggest for best reception

Mount Antenna on roof... On a bikini top??? Whoops that's out
Just above center rear window....What rear window???
Just above center of windshield...Back to the bikini top...

So the question is, Does anybody have a suggestion for the perfect spot?
...and no I'm not gonna go buy a hardtop anytime soon....LOL

Thanks,

I installed one on a Silverado. I put it on the roof just above the drivers door. I think it was a magnetic mount.
Maybe try on the front of the shield frame. Maybe on the top of the roll bar. The bikini top may not interfere.

You could put it on the hood like a hood ornament. Just a crazy idea.

Not so crazy, mine is mounted just behind the hood, and in front of the vent. It’s only 1/2” tall, and 1 1/2”x1 1/4” wide, you don’t even notice it there.

The instructions say line of sight is best, half tempted to try it just under the air intake vent and see if that works, don't really want to have to see a loose wire laying anywhere I might see it, would probably drive me crazy.

Your soft top is invisible to it... you could even put it on top of one of the windshield brace bars.

So many projects, so little time, so little patience waiting for parts to ship in. Got the radio harness in, PO cut off the factory harness plug off so that the cool pigtail from crutchfield was useless and had to do all the connections, tested the head unit works great, check email for metal frame bracket to finish install tracking arrival date, instead I get an Email from vendor letting me know that both the bracket and new FM antenna are backordered. Should have just paid the extra $10 to Amazon and had it here tomorrow. I was hoping to get this buttoned up so I could get the dash put back together, I would start on the AX-15 swap, but waiting on the TC input shaft and throwout bearing release fork to show up. Oh Wait, The fork is Backordered too...

That's where I have the sirius magnetic mount and under the bestop Bikini, just behind the windshield. Works for me.

Cant put the damn thing anywhere yet till I get the bracket and finish deck install, But I'm leaning towards the track in front of the dash, most likely closer to center (Pic1), Or up it the top right corner at the spreader bar. Now that I know it doesn't absolutely have to be on the outside. Gonna give it a whirl and follow up later.

Make a L-Bracket and mounted there where you have it in the second picture, then it is upright. Or in the center of the windshield, or in the center of the dashboard with a L-Bracket.

My XM antenna is on top of the Arizona Rocky Road radio mount just under the softop works great. You could put the antenna on the hood just in front of the cowl or on the cowl itself. Had it on the hood temporarily worked fine.

It may work but don't think you would get a strong enough signal to enjoy the crystal clear reception of satellite radio

My local radio station moved my favorite commentator to a low power station and now I can't get good enough reception to hear him.
Scuttlebutt is that he'll be going to broadcast on Sirius. I googled Sirius, but I can't find on their website if I can move my subscription between vehicles. I have 3 vehicles, but (obviously) can only drive one at a time. At $20.00 a pop, it doesn't make sense to pay $60.00 a month to have Sirius.
They have an adapter that apparently attaches to a conventional radio, but will it easily transfer between radios?

As far as the antenna, Gottagofast states that the soft top is invisible to the signal. That seems reasonable to me. I'd put the antenna on my roll bar.

Good Luck, L.M.

If you buy one of these https://shop.siriusxm.com/radios/?intcmp=SHOP-HP-PROMO1 you can move it from vehicle to vehicle no problem. It works on the radio ID # and not vehicle specific. You may want to have an antenna and power cable for each vehicle just to make the swap quick and easy. Back when I had multiple vehicles I had seperate tuners in each vehicle. I paid one unit full subscription price and the rest were like $5 each. At one time there were 6 radios on my account and the bill was less than $50 a month.
Now I have only two XM tuners I won't say how much I pay but I have been a customer since 2006 and they give me some really good deals. It's best to call customer service when you activate your radio that's when they give you better discounts than what you get online.

You guys have all given me some really great suggestions, The antenna comes with enough cord to move it around so once I get the subscription I can move it around to see where it actually works out before coming to a final resting place.

Gottago... Nice call on the "Mount it flat, going to try it both ways to see how it works.

Manny... I hadn't thought of the bracket, might have otherwise ditched that location.

LM. … I'll ask about the multi car discount when I call them up to set it up. The Radio I bought (From Crutchfield) was "Sirius ready" I had to buy the receiver/antenna for $69, but they send you a $70 gift card after 3mos. service. The PO Had installed a decent Radio, but the Multi function and other buttons were so small that everything I touched hit something else and frustrated the crap out of me, I bought a Fairly inexpensive Sony deck with everything I needed, Bigger buttons, Less high tech, And a detachable face, The bonus was that it was nice enough to have the Sirius jack already.

12b.../ Gottago … I have my own favorite local stations, But once I get out of town the FM goes to crap quick, The phone is ok, until you get out of cell service, which happens again when I'm out in the boonies, hence the satellite solution. I was also thinking that if I put it in the channel above the dash, with enough cable to get it in the center, If I get out of range I could just throw it on the hood when I need it. Back in the cab when I don't.

Thanks again everyone, I was on the fence about the antenna thing, but at least now I have some options.

After having XM for 13 years I can't stand to listen to the commercial laden and dumb a_ _ condescending DJs of free FM radio.

The phone thing my work great in town but out in the boonies where there is no signal not so good. I've been all over the USA with satellite radio with not one dead spot except for heavy tree cover.
