Slant Back Soft Top for YJ

I've seen a lot of the newer jeeps with the slant back tops, or a fastback. I love the look and really want it for my YJ. I've got the sport roll bar so the cage wouldn't be in the way.

does anybody still make what I'm after? all i can seem to find is expired websites.

Rampage makes one for the YJ. I have one on my TJ that's 5+ years old still like new.

What you are looking for is a frameless soft top for the YJ. It uses the roll cage as a frame and has the slant back that gives it that Humvee look.

https://www.quadratec.com/vehicle/19...less-soft-tops

Thats one site that has 2 options. There are others.

I'd stay away from Crown products... I've never had good luck with Crown parts. It's always either fitment issues or part quality.

And also, don't forget that the Sports Bar will not work with this top. You will need the Family roll cage.

I bought it seven years ago, Rampage Products $225.
Couldn't find the model number on the web, you'd need to call.

They do have the (top, back window, tonneau) but, they are strapped together with gaps.
This top zips tight like an OEM soft top, it uses your OEM frame.

I used pipe insulation foam tubes and electrical tape for the exposed roll bar in this pic.

Don't let the Pic throw you off, this is the Sport Bar top.
$154 on Amazon.
Saw your soft uppers, they fit this top.

thank you! i had not seen post 11 when i made post 12.

it makes me nervous that the photo of that item shows gaps at each corner. i may email them and see if i can get a picture of that actual item, just to make sure they haven't changed it that much since you got yours.

That pic has always been like that, I had the same misgivings seven years ago.
I did not want to have to send it back.

They did not want to spend the money to photograph a 1987-1991 or they just couldn't find one.
Don't know how in the hell they expect to sell the product as we are visual consumers and would pass without reading.

The product description matches what I have.
I followed the install instructions but have since discarded the rear bow.
The top reduces the amount of canvas used in half and I also went with glass sliders.
I can hear my radio again!

Installs like the OEM top.
There are two footman loops to drill into the floor behind the seats.

The back window on a 1963 Mercury Monteray was an opening power window.
I'll bet you don't have a button on the dash to open your back window.
Other than that, you have an exceptionally nice YJ.

Good Luck, L.M.

That's what I wanted and looked long and hard.
A custom canvas shop can do anything but, I couldn't justify a top that costs more than the jeep.

Do you like it, Raoul? I have the three piece top that doesn't enclose the cab, and I found this one right after I bought the three pieces.

I like it, it seals as well as the OEM did.
Don't have any experience with your three piece, just pictures.
The strapped back window wouldn't bother me so much.
I can deal with getting wet while stopped.
My concern would be gaps around the door uppers.
If the elements are blowing in while driving I'd recommend selling that one for what you can.
This three piece, zipped together top is about $160 and uses the OEM soft top hardware.
Keeps me dry.

How does the tailgate seal? I want a low profile tonno cover like that, but they all required drilling into the tailgate instead of using the soft top bar.

The tonneau uses the same bar as OEM back window, no drilling.
It's just like the OEM soft top except the rear bow is slid forward to the seat backs and the spreaders that were between the front and rear bow are not used.

A downside of this top is the potential tonneau swimming pool.
I solved this by making a couple of these to put under the tonneau.

Slant Back Soft Top for YJ

Ive been looking for what you talked about in your OP for over a year. The sports bar is our problem.
I want yalls opinion on something.
My FIL (whos really good at this type stuff) suggested an added bar to the back of the sports bar. Its hard to explain. But.
He suggested LP gas line (steel) or pvc (plastic). It could be attached to the sports bar in the proper place (on the sides) and go up to the proper height (on both sides) and then run a piece across to connect them. It would be like an added bar across the back and the only thing it would do would provide support for the fastback part of the top. Hes drawn plans, and I know itll work.
But, heres the part that Im unsure about.

Is there a fastback type soft top that will fit everywhere else? Say, a Bestop Trektop for an 97 TJ?
Or Id there a lot more fitting problems between the two?
