Soft Top Question

Howdy folks, quick question.

The '95 YJ I bought a couple of weeks ago has an almost new soft top. I think that it is a Rugged Ridge brand. If I zip out the rear window, and both side windows, can I run the rest of the top as a safari-style top, or would the rear sail flaps come loose and wave around madly? I was online looking at some safari tops and decided that I like them, but why buy one if I can just run around with the windows removed?

Also, if I decide to go with an aftermarket safari top, would I need to buy the front channel? I suspect that I don't as I already have a soft top installed, and it seems to be tucked into some type of a channel already.

Oh, and any brand recommendations would be appreciated too.

Thanks!

I have a Bestop soft top which does the same thing, and yes, it is made to remove the side and rear curtains and resemble a safari top. Most safari or bikini tops only need the front windshield channel that is used by the soft top - they pretty much all fit in the same way, but it's good to check when you buy one and ask.

Yes you can run it without the windows. It's not going anywhere. I run mine with just the rear windows in. No fronts or rear, but the rear(side) windows don't add support to hold the top down

i have the bestop super top as well and thats is exactly how i am running now. i have the doors completely off the side windows off and the rear window rolled up, i run 55-60 on my way to work most the way and have no problems so i dont see why you would.

I run mine the same way. No problems as long as your spreader bars are nice and tight.

Well, alrighty then!

Thanks. The money I would save from buying the other top can be spent on fixing some of the newly emerging things that the PO "forgot to mention".

I kinda wish that I had the money to buy the YJ version of the SunRider like we have on the JK' soft top.

I run mine safari style. No windows at all. Usually take the I-10 to work 75 mph. Bestop replace a top with factory hardware.
