Some questions...

I am looking into picking up a YJ to clean up a bit and give as a gift to someone. Lets say I have a budget of $4000-$5000. Does anyone have any ideas if this is possible for that kind of money? Anyone have some links to similar threads? Anywhere I can look to considering purchasing one for a project? Maybe some issues to be aware of before getting involved? Any incite whatsoever would be very appreciated.

welcome to the forum. with that budget you should be able to find a pretty nice yj. they are everywhere, ebay, craigslist, local auto papers.

things to look out for. yj's will rust on the windshield frames, floor pans under carpet. rocker panels, and rear of frame and rear body mounts. beware of diamond plate, it hides sins.

i would recomend going with the 4.0 engine, and the best years to look for is 90-95. i would suggest staying away from the 4.2 motor because it was carbureted and problematic. 2.5 4cyl is a good motor, a work horse that will go forever, but it is a dog.

good luck.

It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president."

the biggest thing to look out for is rust, but for $4K-$5K you should be able to find a prettty decent yj.
