speaker, amp and sub brands

Ive been away from car audio for several years and im wanting to put a small system in my yj. Im familiar with all the name brands Rockford, kicker, alpine....But with everything that's happened with the economy and brand houses I know brands aren't what they were in the 90's. There are new players out there now. Im stuck with what I want to get so im calling out to you guys, give me your favorite brands. You cant tell what something is going to sound like till you get it in your vehicle but...we all drive yj's so you all can tell me what brands you like, and help me out, with what to get.

Im totally open to ideas so fire away.

Tim

Hey Tim as a former car audio pro, I'd suggest sticking to what you know. Alpine is still quality Sony and JVC are still shit as are pioneer subs.

Kicker is a mixed bag these days along with fosgate. I've always been partial to MTX personally. But ask yourself how much you really want to spend. Everything I've ever installed in my YJ I've been relieved of at some point. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah some bonehead relieved me of my clarion pro audio 9375, just the face no less, I guess if didn't have time to steal the whole unit he was going to make sure I didn't enjoy it either. I bought that receiver when it was new and had it for 5 years and two vehicles, soon as I move to Kentucky some jealous prick lifts it. I'm not going with a super high end system. My dash and soundbar speakers are pretty much shot so I need to replace those, and I want a sub just big enough to add some bottom end.

Thanks for the props on alpine and mtx, Sony and JVC were pretty much not in the running. I was considering pioneer sub's though so thanks for the heads up on that.

Anybody else want to chime in.

Thanks

Tim

I had a stereo shop in Nashville (years ago) and I was always a fan of ESR subs... Great sound, great price. They were a spin off brand of Polk I believe

Was never a big fan of JBL... Think they over-rate their power, performance and clarity, but then again most of them do

My experience is equally dated, but JL Subs were well known and performed great for my CJ and bronco.

I had thought of jl. They do perform really well and they have a very solid rep. Sonic electronic has their own line of products called nvx. They seem to get good reviews all across the board. But I've not settled on them yet. Also been looking at infinity and Polk.

I think a few people on here may use those brands so if anyone has experience with either of them post it up.

Keep da ideas coming.

Thanks guys

Tim

I put jbl gto speakers in the fronts and some amazon speaker and sound deadener combo thingy for the soundbar speakers and the jbl sound better. And they were 1/2 the price. But they both sound better than my stock non alpine garbage. I know several other people that went jbl in other rigs and all were blown away at sound quality, especially at their price range

I would second the JL audio subs -- I have two 10's in my wrangler, sound awesome.

Here are the subs:
10W1v3-4 - Car Audio - Subwoofer Drivers - W1v3 - JL Audio

Well the votes are in and jbl gto gets the win. After I really started to look at the specs it was really the only way to go. They have an incredible 93 db sensitivity and play all the way down to 50 hz at least on paper they do. I ordered the jbl gto 629 for the soundbar and in a month or so I'm going to order the gto 4x6's. Going with an all jbl gto system probably. The only problem I'm having is I can't find the five channel amp that I've heard about. Could you possibly shoot me a link for it. I searched a t sonic electronic and they don't seem to have it.

Thanks guys for helping me make my mind up

Tim
