Stripping the jeep for paint

i'm taking off most of the outside trim before i take the jeep to the paint shop, need some instruction on how to remove the following parts.
Please provide pics.

-wiper fluid jets(unscrew the screws on top but are still stuck on)
-wiper arms
-lock cylinders for half doors and tailgate
-handles for half doors and tailgate
-oem side steps and flares
- sound bar

2nd, how strong is the hood lock in the grill, i would like to remove the hold downs but its a 40 min drive to the paint shop, and its on a highway, i figure if i keep it below 40 mph it should be ok, but whats your opinion?

3rd, i will be folding down the windshield and driving it there with it down, the factory tie-downs for it are long gone, would a bungee chord do? what would you recommend.

thanks,
Paul

Remove the hold downs at home and use zip ties to get you to the shop.

The washer jets may have a screw below, if no they're just stuck on, there's a gasket under them that kinda glues them in place.

The wiper arms have clips on them, right side for driver and left for passanger, fold them out and you'll see, pop that with a flat screw driver, the arm is on a splined shaft, it'll work off with some elbow grease or you can get a special puller.

The half door locks and handles are acessed by removing the door pannels. There is a metal clip holding the lock, remove that then the linkage from the back of the lock, it's just a plastic clip that you pop off. The handles have a couple small bolts holding them and more linkage, this time being a metal clip. The rear gate has a metal cover on the edge that opens, remove it by pulling the bolts holding it on, remove the lock and handle basically the same as the front.

The side steps will have small bolts holding them, get under the jeep and the back of the rocker you should see them, it'll most likely take some wd or pb to help break them loose.

I think the sound bar just had Velcro thingys on the sides and some bolts in the back, unzipped the padding to make sure, the wires should just unplug.

Your hood should be just fine, the window might me but i'd be more comfortable with two bungies or maybe rope so there isn't any strech alowing the window to bounce in the wind.

Opps, forgot the flares. There is a bunch of screws holding them on, stick your head in and look, you'll see them, just on the inner lip of the fender. Once again, you'll probably want to spray them with something, they catch everything the tires kick up so they are a bear to remove!

The seatbelts have the small triangular cover... it hinges at the top so pop the bottom loose. Most likely the small amount of plastic that makes the hinge is broke... but it will still clip back in.

The flares can be a PITA, you'll find at least a couple of the screws that have been screwed in so hard they are sunk into the plastic flare and the screw heads are small.......and don't screw up the plastic nuts, dealers want about $4-5 for those little plastic parts.

I am doing the same thing on my YJ! Well, I just finished stripping it a couple days ago.

The wiper jets just have the 2 screws, then pry them with a small flat head and will come loose. The hose connects to them coming from the driver side, so lift up on passenger side and pull up. I would nor recommend fully disconnecting from the hoses cuz if the hoses fall in, only way to access them is I believe taking the dash out!

Wiper arms pry right off too with a flat head.

Lock cylinders I also would not recommend removing, just not worth the swearing and scratches on your hands!

The flares were somewhat simple, there are a bunch of small bolts all the way around the inside of the fender. 8 mm I believe. You will have to take the wheels off to make this a bit easier. Hold the plastic nuts wil a pair of pliers and wrench away! Once you get under the jeep name on the side and under the door, there are 2 bolts, 13 mm I believe, you will need a small vice grip for the nuts on these bolts. one goes through to the inside where your left foot would be when driving, and the other is accessed from underneath. These are though!

I used bungee cords to hold the hood down.

I think it is against the law to be on the road with the windshield down, so I would recommend bringing your torx and your ratchet with you, and dropping the windshield when you get there. Not sure why you would drop it for paint though.

The round plastic things on the seat belt pry off.

And the rubber thing around the gas cap unbolts right off, 8 mm I believe and 10 mm for the license plate holder.

I also took my windshield out of the frame as well. Not too hard either.
