Sun roof for heat control?

I do not want to put the soft top back on or run topless at the moment but am 100% ready to do something about the heat the Jeep generates simply sitting in the shade during the day. Even with the windows unzipped it bakes in there and Texas hasn't even gotten started on hot yet. I'm looking at cutting in a sun roof and have seen quite a few that appear to be easily installed and easy to seal. I'd think tinting the sun roof and leaving it cracked open during the day would help. I also plan to tint the side and rear windows to alleviate this. I'd love to get the AC fixed but man that looks to be more of a monster than I want to tackle.

Any advice on heat control or pros/cons of a sun roof would be appreciated.

RichnSteph

It’s probably like pissing into the wind with the heat you get down there, but every little bit helps when you don’t have A/C

Sun roof will likely make it hotter inside...

Look into insulation instead

The a/c system is basic if it is all there.
Figure out what is wrong with it and fix it.

RichnSteph, you have started 57 threads to date, all tackling issues or getting info to plan to fix something.

The a/c is going to be the Rich killer?!

I will be the first to tell you, after you get it going, you will feel silly for being intimidated.

Now, go start your a/c thread...

Good advice here.^^^

Put the soft top on, but leave the sides off. Cheap.

Get the A/C repaired. Not so cheap. Get a bid from an A/C shop. If you have a shop repair your A/C, you stand a better chance of getting it done correctly. Most home mechanics aren't familiar enough with A/C to do their own A/C work.

Good Luck, L.M.

I'm guessing you didn't mean that as a "get the heck off the keyboard and get your butt in the shop!!!". But it worked.

Time to stop asking questions and start turning wrenches.

Yes, get off your ass, and under the hood.
No, do not stop asking questions until you are comfortable under the hood.

LOL, Admire your desire.

The AC will make a difference and it is not as intimidating as it looks. Watch a few youtube videos and you'll be ready, also insulating the top and tinting the windows will help.

Never stop asking questions. Get the AC fixed. When tinting make sure it reflects UVs. I had a clear laminate that reflects UVs applied to all the interior side of the windows along with some insulation applied to the hard surfaces and it made a HUGE improvement in the interior temperatures. Good luck, Lee.
