Suspension/Lift recommendations or advice

1995 Jeep YJ. I am in search for a new suspension and or lift kit? I’m not great with vehicles all together but I’m always willing to learn and put in the work that is needed to do. I don’t do any heavy duty off-road fun just because I’m not fully equipped to do so. I would like my Jeep mechanically sound and safe to drive at this point and maybe to have a little fun in the snow or mud randomly.
My passenger side leaf spring has snapped clean in half on the bottom leaf. I need a new brake line as well. This must happen at the end of month and I don’t have a crazy big budget, maybe 700 to 1,000 dollars.
What all would I need to do if I want to switch out my suspension? Can I just replace my suspension and then purchase a lift kit later? I wouldn’t mind lifting it a little to give a better look maybe but I also don’t want to spend too too much right out the gate for financial reasons. But what would I HAVE to do if I lift it 4-5 inches? New tires, spacers, stabilizers, any of that stuff.
I would love some feedback and advice to do this project. Thank you all for reading!

You need to decide what size tires you want to run to figure out how much lift you need. Stock gearing will be the limiting factor and if you have a 4 cylinder driveability will be even worse. When you go with bigger tires you need lower gears and thats far more expensive than a lift kit. You can make a Dana 35 survive with 33's if you dont shock load it) i did for many years.

The leaf springs are what lifts the jeep. You could replace them with replacement springs and lift it later but you will be replacing the springs again so you will be wasting money.

Lift springs are relatively cheap you can buy Rubicon Express 4.5" lift springs for about $150 each. It gets expensive when you also need to buy longer shocks and longer brake lines. And although you can get away with a t-case drop and shims to make your driveshaft work you are better off with a SYE and double carden shaft which gets very expensive.

Rough Country lift kits are cheap and ride like crap i would avoid them like the plague. I used to have Superlift 3.5" lift and it was very stiff at first but once i put some miles on them and got them broke in they were manageable and i liked them.

This will not be cheap to do right you will spend many thousands of dollars so you either need to commit to it or just keep it stock and drive it like it is.

Taking into consideration of your budget my suggestion is to get a junkyard spring to replace the broken one. Then repair anything else you have going bad, owning a 24-year-old vehicle ain't cheap.

Focus on dependability first, save your money, then the upgrade nightmare can begin

As Agalloch said a 4-5 inch lift, tires, longer brake lines, Slip yoke eliminator, new driveline, upgraded brakes (needed for bigger tires), shims, re-gear and stronger axle shafts for larger tires will run you $5000 +/-.

I've watched bone stock Jeeps do some amazing things with an experienced driver. Fix it then wheel it, you'll figure out what upgrades you will need (if any at all) for what you want to do.

Avoid spacers like the plague! buy rims with the correct width and backspacing for the tire size you choose.

Thanks so much! I think what I’ll do is just get her mechanically sound and safe and take on the upgrades next year.

On an entirely new note... anyone ever have their Jeep struck by lightning? Unfortunately last night my Jeep took a hit and now it won’t turn on. I ran it perfectly fine hours prior to the storm. There’s a hole in the street right under my engine and pieces of asphalt inside my engine. Neighbor said she saw it and smoke.
Anyone heard of this happening?!?

That sucks is it covered by insurance?
