Question SYE Short or Super Short

Soon I will be changing out gears and getting rid of the 1" transfer case drop as I also install the SYE. Running OME 2.5" hardtop springs with 5/8" lift shackles. So I should be a little over 3.1" of lift.

Do I need the most costly super short SYE or will the standard SYE be ok?

Is there any other benefit of the Super short SYE to justify the cost; longer life, more durable, better vibration control? So far the only benefit is if I ever wanted to go taller lift.

You only need a super short if you are running a lot of lift 6"+ or you have a long transmission like a NV4500. You will be fine with a 3" lift and an AX15 and a standard slip yoke eliminator. Super Short SYE's get complicated when you need to calibrate the speedometer because you need to run a control box. With a standard SYE you can just swap speedometer drive gear and they are cheap.

Also i suggest buying a JB Conversions SYE they are better made than anything else on the market.

With the super short, you need to run an additional speedo calibrater as mentioned above to the tune of an another $200+/-.

I run a Advance Adapters SYE on my TJ, been happy with it

You'll also need a new rear driveline, I suggest Tom Wood took them 3 days to build and get it to my house cross country. Install the SYE, get the pinion angle set, take the measurements then call them. http://www.4xshaft.com/

JB Conversion "The speed sensor supplied in the kit produces the stock Jeep signal allowing the original speedometer to function normally." Then I would need a electric speedometer correction for larger tires. Or change the factory speedo to a VDO electric which has its own correction ability.

Either option will cost an extra 130$ on top of the extra 100$ over the regular SYE. $230

Most forums mention JB or Advance SYE. With JB Conversions being the best. JB does have the best website for the product. Quadratec sells four other brands which are up to 100$ more expensive that the JB.

I wouldn't judge a product by the quality of their website.

When ordering parts it's best to talk to the sales or tech support people at the vendor to get exactly what you need. No one knows their products better than them.

Quadratech is mostly an overpriced fluff store that sells less than top quality parts that usually don't fit properly. At least that's been my experience

The super short speed sensor will allow the speedometer to function but the only way to calibrate it is to buy the Dakota Digital speedometer controller. And to hook it up you need to cut the signal wire to the speedometer under the dash and splice it in. The box is about $100 and i mounted mine with Velcro to the inside of the cowl behind the dash.

Fully Agree.

Just seams odd that other brands offer SS SYE and Short SYE with near nothing to described them. Skyjacker for example has almost nothing informative listed, yet is one of the more expensive.
