Tailgate idea/ thoughts?

So I see all these bumper tire mounts, and they all look good. A bit pricey, except for those who can weld and fabricate.
But I was wondering if anyone has tried or thought of just beefing up the rear door with a third hinge and welding a plate to the tub where the hinges attach.
Seems like it would reduce weight and be simpler. Any thoughts?

I've read a post that said the issue is not the hinges but the seems of the tailgate pulling apart. Makes sense to me - you could probably put 1,000 lbs on those two hinges.

Ah, I see. But you could still strengthen the tailgate then?

Too expensive. There's gotta be a cheap way to beef up the existing tailgate and hinges, doesn't there?

To me; (after a quick glance), that appears to be nothing more than an old CJ style swingout. Get the same thing from an old part-out for $20.
Just some FYI for somebody.
