tailgate mounted sub box

I know there is a sub thread already but Iddidn't really find the info Iwanted. I ssaw on jkforum that a member had his sub box mounted to the inside of the tailgate. That is what Iwant to do. I have experience in building sub enclosure andnwiring amps son the build isn't really the problem. My problem comes in with how is it mounted to the tailgate? I'm just not sure how to securely mount it. If anyone can help me I would surely appreciate it. Any ideas from members who have done it, or just brainsetormers and spitballera all are welcome.

Thanks a lot for the help advance.

Tim

I am trying to come up with benefits of having it mounted to the tailgate and having trouble. Seems a sub mounted to a tailgate is going to rattle pretty bad. Not to mention most guys including myself are trying to get weight off the tailgate to save the tailgate/hinges. But if you insist I would think one of the only ways is self tapping screws. In my yj I am in the process of mounting it all under the back seat.

I think he's trying to build it into the tailgate? I donno like was above me, building it onto the tailgate seems like a silly thing to do. If you're looking to save space, why not rip out the seat of the back seat and put a sub box in its place?

Nevermind. The yj tailgate is quite a bit different the the tj or the jk. It wouldn't work the way I thought it would.

It's a good idea, I like it, just don't see it working too well. Looks like you'd loose a decent amount of trunk space though

Out of curiosity why would you want it mounted to the gate? It seems pointless? Your still taking up almost all the room you have in your trunk. I noticed you realized it's not do-able on a yj but I am interested in any benefit to such a mod

In short I was going to use a shallow mount sub to do it. And to be honest I just like to think outside the box, and be creative. In my Silverado I had before my jeep. I took the factory console out and put a 4th order bandpass for two digital design 8's in place of the console, because even though it was an ext. Cab Ijust wanted to be different. The contest i took it to, most of the competitors said I shouldve won just for the originality. I've never liked doing things by the book or what the norm dictated I should do.

nothing wrong with that man, that's why I wanted to ask because I am sure you know the tailgates on yj's are weak.

Whatever you end up doing post pics because whether it's right or not I am sure it will be cool.
