Thinking about getting a YJ. Got some questions...

Hello guys, Ive recently decided that I want to sell my '94 Mustang GT and get a Jeep.

Im looking for a mid to early 90's with the 4.0. I dont want the 4 banger.

So I have a few questions.

What kind of mileage can I expect with the 4.0 and 33 in tires?

Hows wind noise with the soft top on the interstate?

And how fas will the stock 4.0 with stock gears be able to go with some 33's on it? As long as I can hit highway speeds I am fine.

Also, what are the biggest tires I can fit on the stock suspension? What about with a 2 inch budget boost?

See stats on my sig for details.

I average about 17mpg

And I spend about 80% of my time cruising at 70mph @ 2200 rpm

Highway speeds are not a problem.

Cool deal. I dont plan on going any bigger than 33s, so I should be able to hit the speeds fine.

And 17 MPG aint too bad. Atleast coming from my GT. lol

Also depends a little on your gears. I got a pretty good get up and go for 33s and a 4" lift, but i'm running 4.56 gears. As for hwy speeds you'll be more than fine, I can role at 85 but choose not to bc i just dont think that it's helping out my jeep any, but I cruise at 80 easily with the pedal only bout 1/2 way. I can accelerate past a car without downshifting. I'm no pro but i've been told to not run anything bigger than 33s before upgrading your axel. And I get between 17-19 MPG running around town. good luck, hope this helps.

If you get a manual trans with stock gearing (usually 3.07) and 33s, 5th gear will be a rare occasion. The automatics are three speeds and should pull top gear on the highway.

well, it ain't quiet, thats for sure. expect to have to speak up to hear the passenger...but maybe thats a good thing? anyway, i have a 3" body lift with 31's and 70 seems to be a good safe speed. have been up to 80, never below 60 on uphills. so, thats the best i can tell you. 16.5 standard mileage. i-6 5 speed. no idea what the rear gears set at.
