Thrush Welded.. Dissapointed

93 4.0. I replaced rear tailpipe with a walker one from autozone and a thrush welded muffler. Loved the sound of it without muffler and tailpipe (just dumping it after cat) it sounded amazing. I researched and everyone said the thrush welded was aggressive and deep sounding and was a exact copy of the flowmaster 40 series. Well i installed it last night and its just the same as stock.. maybe a little deeper but not much at all. Im very dissapointed. Any others have had this happen to them? Im so tempted to just run car muffler free hahah

The mufflers really wont sound different unless your up in the RPM's in which you prob. wouldn't be standing behind to hear the difference. I know on some dodges with flowmasters they just hum. Then when you put the gas down HOLY CRAP they'll light right up like a open set of headers!

Have you asked someone else to drive it? Stand there and have them take off fast away from you. Might hear a dif. then? not sure...

No I'll have to give that a try. All I know Is that at idle with just the cat, it had a deep rumble like a 350. It sounded better than my Camaro I used to have and that had a flowmaster system with headers...

I ran a Flowmaster Delta 40 in my V6 '89 Yota Pickup for years. That thing absolutely screamed. Like, I'm talking setting off car alarms in parking garages at idle. My Wrangler now doesn't even do that and it's got a 350 with true duels.
I can't tell you why the Thrush doesn't have the same sound, but if you're not happy with it, you could always try running just the cat and glasspack. That would still be really freaking loud and not nearly as raspy as going with no muffler at all.
