$$$ to replace axle seal?

So found a puddle of oil under the driver's side front tire the other day. Appears the oil seal on the axle has blown out. Read a few posts on how to do and not sure if I want to tackle myself axle and diffs are all greek to me. I understand it's only a few dollar part but if anybody has had a shop do it what did it cost? Knowing that mechanic rates are all over the place if you know how many hours labor they charged I would know where I stand on getting done or tackling it myself.

Also as long as I top off the diff would it be Ok to drive a short distance few miles to a shop or am I asking for trouble?

On a leaky pinion thats okay, but with an outer axle seal thats a bad idea.... Gear oil on you brakes can turn bad real quick.

As for quote from a shop.... I'd imagine it wouldn't be too bad. The driver side seal is the easy one, its the passenger CAD seal that is a PITA. Don't be afraid to tackle this yourself, it just takes a bit of patience.

When it comes to the CAD seal, nowhere would touch it except the local 4x4 shop, and they only have one guy that is good at it. After a few tips from him I bought 3 seals and did it myself... I ruined the first seal, got the second in without damage and kept a spare.
