To the military

Asked this in my build thread but little response..like johnny 5 i need input lol

Changed the paint from ordinary black to camo green with semi-gloss highlights..I'm not quit threw yet...gonna do 4x4 yj on the left and rear quarters and on the black part on the hood is going to read "To all those who serve in all branches past, present and future, Thank You"have a mini US flag on one side and Canadian on the other..
that is for all American and Canadian soldiers...since i have friends and family in both military's
But wanted to ask some of you who serve or did serve...is that ok..or offensive in any way..or tacky?if it please say so...I'm going to wait a week or so for all your replies..if ya'll think it is be honest and i wont do it...Maybe just pay tribs to my gramps instead...US Marine in Korea
BTW have had a few old timers already come and reminisce and talk to me about the jeep...love hearing the old stories. specially bout the jeeps...last pic is close up of paint..whole jeep was painted with a textured black undercoating then let dry for a few days, then sprayed flat camo green and semi gloss black...is camo green od green? wife asked i didnt know..

Personally I say go for it as long as the us flag is done correctly.

What I find irritating is the tj running around locally in od green with a white star on the door and serial numbers on the hood like an old willys.

Thank you for asking, but I don't think you'll have any negative comments. I think it's a cool idea.
I’m a 26-year USAF veteran and I think it would be an honor.

I personally did a tribute to my Father (an Army Air Corps vet) and to Jeep history in general. I researched and did up my JKU with authentic markings (with a couple of additions) like an Army Air Corps Jeep in 1941.

I'm a USN nuke, seems good to me. I'd just be worried about how it would look with that much wordage on it.

And the canadian I might not be canadian but I'd make sure their flag is flying right...

Brother, i dont think any veteran or active duty service member would have anything negative to say if your jeep is a military tribute. If anything youll get compliments. Im a vet and im flattered youd do your jeep up in a military tribute. Thanks!

Do it up nice

Bruce, yes, please feel free and do it, not for us, but for those that never returned. Many Canadians came across the border to serve in Vietnam with the US.

I think it would be nice if you placed the Marine Emblem on your Jeep for your Grandfather, a Marine that served in Korea...Hope you post pictures when it is finished

Kick ass jeep beast,love it..
And thanks for all the replies..I'm gonna get started on lettering and emblems hopefully this week..and Fuseman you can count on pics..matter of fact here ya go..just finished my new top..made from an army tent..I removed my windshield channel(had new self tapping screws)layed the new top and re-screwed it down..then used grommet tool to insert eyelets every foot or so...bungies around roll bars and taa daa new bikini..
you ladies and gents who are thinking of buying one,don't..this took myself and my wife a whole hour and a half to make...under 50 bux as well...got some flapping in the back @ or around 60kph(40-45 mph) but i'm getting ready to take care of that as well...got some old aluminum in the back..i;m gonna use a few strips of gorilla tape on the seams so they don't fray the cut 2 strips of aluminum screw them over the taped section from one roll bar to the other side...should keep it stiff enough...
Doc your most welcome...
As for the flags...they will both be flying right..may have to find decals..don't know if i cant hand paint them lol...the letters will be hand painted by me..Pete the words will be on the middle of the hood...about 2 inches or so...

Its actually an 89 yj

It has a cj5 hood ( note finger dimple)

Cj7 grill , home brewed fenders and armour, front rollbar , 8.8/4.10s, lsd frear , locker up forward , etc.

It fools many , including mb owners too !

And it gets wheeled agressively

Not quit done...waiting for decals to get here...but this is what i have so far...for those not familiar with Canadian military...the second name is my wifes grampa...RCR=Royal Canadian Regiment...Found out not only was my Gramps(Louis Floyd)in the USMC in Korea but my Great Uncle James Floyd was in the Army in Korea also...and my brother in law Chris Johnson was in the middle east in 90-91...Anyone know how I could find My grampas rank? I've googled and found nothing...his service was just b4 my dads time so he doesn't know..and most everyone that knew anything has pasted on..
My Mother-in-law teared up last night when i showed her the hood(her dad is SGT Pond)...

As a family memebr you can request his service record from the archives. I will see if I can dig up link for you. Try a google for military records and sse if the link pops up. Its paperwork that has you swear you are a relative and they send you a copy.

Hey bruce quick question for ya on your 'tent top', first off love the idea i have started to do this with an old soft top i have, but how are you keeping the sides from flapping or the rest of the top from filling up like a parachute? As of right now mine is pretty much just an emergency rain fly because it does what i was just mentioning.

Don't know about Canada but US Flag protocol is the US Flag is Always mounted on the Flags Right fender other countries on the Left. If your in Canada I Don't know what the Protocol on The Canadian Flag is for Mounting with a foreign flag. And yeah we had some awesome Canucks with us in Nam. It is going to be sweet. Thanks for making it. Bet your family is gonna be proud of your jeep when your done.

I went to local hardware store a bought a grommet tool..put 3 grommets on one side and 3 on the other...
ran 3-4 inch bungies..
i unscrewed my soft top windshield channel...its a 2 piece on mine...original screws were rusted so i used slightly bigger self tappers...my tent had a small seam so it worked out great...screwed down the tent under the channel...i do have a little "bow" in the middle but its nothin major...
that back bar was some sort of decorative aluminum strips i found @ home depot lol...by shear chance...grabbed 2 of then bent one end around my roll bars...guesstimated the other end..made a cut..bent that end around then cut the second piece to fit under the first...self tappers again..with the tent in between the 2 ...very little flap until i hit highway speeds..and even then its not a problem... i never take the top off either..fits nicely under soft top...plan on making a headliner for my hard top with the other half also...lol at higher speeds it kinda sounds like a wind tunnel..

Gunner my family already loves it...i sent my dad a pic last night...his dad is Louis...i could hear the change in his voice when i asked if he got the pics...

Pat i took your advise and looked into getting the records...said i coudnt because im not a primary family member...son daughter or spouse...but asked my dad if he would do it and he said he was already lookin into it becuz of what i was doin with my jeep..
