upgraded drivetrain

Well I'm going to bite the bullet and do the sbc chevy swap into my 90 yj, I'm planning to use a th 350 tranny. My problem is trying trying to decide what transfer case to use, I have a set of dana 44 axles from a scout lying around, but the front diff is on the driver side and the tcase drop is on the passenger side with the current t case. What im trying to decide is do i want to use a different t case or different set of axles. I'm mostly looking for you guys input, what would you do? I don't want to end up with an expensive adapter to a tcase that wont work for an axle upgrade.

Im doing the 350 swap myself except im using the 700r4 tranny due to the fact that its a fourspeed with overdrive and a np231j the one that comes on my jeep and i believe yours from the factory. by using this overdrive tranny and t-case combination the swap could actually raise gas mileage in theory and also is extremly durable do some reading at novak-adapt.com its a great place to learn some things about the swap they also make excellent adapter kits and motor mounts for the swap.

Im going to stick with the th350 for 2 reasons 1 im not worried about fuel mileage, b i got it for free. My jeep does indeed have the np231, but with the driver side drop i dont want to be limited on my axle swap.

No one has an opinion about what they would do with their own jeep?
