Upgrades

I am posting this thread because this is my first jeep that I am going to be upgrade by myself. J bought my last one with mods done already. It was a 91 Cherokee. This new one is a 90 YJ. I'm looking for any tips or suggestions that could be given. I'm on a tight tight budget for now so I'm taking it one thing at a time. Here's what I've got planned let me know what you guys think.

I bought my jeep and and it was running everything stock. But the other owner was trying to remove the emissions components , but he had no idea what he was doing. So far I have completed a nutter bypass, loved it but was still running stock carter carb.... Which failed.... Big suprize. I am awaiting the arrival of a weber carb. Ran me about 360 bucks canadian. The next thing on my list is the TFI ignition upgrade. That should run around 130 bucks for the parts. Then in early spring I plan on getting a snorkel... The redline snorkel kit should be around 160-200 bucks..... Then after the rainy season it's time for a lift. I think just a 2.5in body lift to start. Then after some saving I'm going for the suspension. And then once iv got my yj up where I want it I am going to get some new wheels.

I would skip the body lift or just get a smaller one 2.5in is way to much for a body lift, I would get a 1in max. Then get a lift kit, rough country has a 4in lift for around 450 US. I would also recomend doing your suspention and tires at the same time other wise you'll have a lifted jeep with tiny tires and it looks bad other then that looks good, post some pics when you get a chance and welcome to the forum

I do want to have a snorkel. I wont be doing a lot of deep water but all my local trails have at least 1 river crossing. My friend ruined his engine by trying to cross with no snorkel. It won't be on all the time but I will want it just in case.

Good call on the body lift. My tires I have right now are just big enough where I don't get the best out of my flex. So the body lift will give me more to use. Then when I do the suspension I will be uping the tire size. 33's most Lilkly. I dont want to be to lifted cause I don't do hard core rocks. Some nice ones but nothing huge. So a huge lift is a waste. I've got some basic pic I'll try and upload

Save up and get the RC 4" Suspension lift. For $400-$500 it cannot be beat. That will be my purchase when the time comes

One other thing. I'm rocking a hard top right now and it's great for keeping out the rain but I can't take it down myself. Do you think it's worth selling the hard top and buying a soft top?

That would depend. If you live in Canada where its frigidly cold then I would keep the hard top. Soft top are very nice in the spring and summer but you will be cold as ice come winter time. Just have to weigh the pro's and con's

Do you have any type of covered parking? You could get a winch for a boat trailer $25, some angle iron or straps, a few chains and a pulley on the ceiling.

I don't have any covered parking so a hoist is out. That was my first idea. I live in Canada but in on vancover island not the mainland. We get one maybe 2 big snows and it's gone as quick as it came. I'm thinking about getting the soft top but keeping the hard top for winter. But right Now it sucks cause it's cold most of the time, but every few days we get a nice warm sunny day that's perfect for Rollin with no top.
