Using an Emergency top as a soft top?

I would like a soft top for the summer, unfortunately right now I don't have the money for it and it is scorching hot.

I found this and was wondering, could I use it as my summer top? my YJ is my daily driver, but, I think I'm going to die of heat stroke unless I can get my hard top off.
could I use the top for the summer (putting it on over night, when it looks like it's about to rain.) and then just put my hard top back on in the fall/winter? or will it wear-out too quickly?
thanks.

Why go with that? A bikini top is inexpensive and provides ample shade from the sun:

True that. When Spring hits my bikini goes on and stays on until it gets too cold. I just put my trail cover at nite or on rainy days. I did however buy an emergency top this year but I gave yet to take it out of the bag. Just wanted some insurance on long road trips.

we and my buds often switch out who drives, to even out the gas, it would be snug but the emergency top covers it a little

Hmm, sew a window in the back and it looks like a decent frameless top for those that have the sport bar....

A 1990 only needs a bikini top.
If it starts raining, drive faster.
If you get wet, cuss me.

shoot, just get a bikini top and if you get wet, strap a tarp between the bars to block the wind.

Has anyone bought used one of those desert rat tops?

If you want a full top I still say the full smittybilt kit for 239 is a steal.

I'm going to look into the desert rat tops
but for now I think I might just buy a tarp and maybe save towards a full top, my budget at the moment is about $120 for a top

2 problems with your idea.

1. the top that you have posted the link to is an emergency top. its not designed to be on while at highway speeds.

2. Even if you did get that top, you would need all of the channels that are required for a full soft top. since you said that you had a hard top, your jeep doesnt have those channels on it.

And just a side note, if you got a bikini top, you still need a windshield channel mounted at the top of the windshield to slip the front edge of the bikini top into. which needs taken off whenever you want to put the hardtop back on.

i'll send you one of the two or three spare header channels i have for free, if you need it. every time i buy a top, they send me those two piece header channels. i have a one piece from a cj on my jeep so i have spares of those two piece ones that are still in the packages
