Waving

Okay I live for 28 years in the Chicago Area, three years in England and the rest in Colorado.

What the heck is up with Colorado?

In Chicago and in England, every time you saw another Jeep, regardless of year, or poor design/option choices, we would wave to each other. In Colorado, you are more likely to get a confused look or flipped off.

Also in Colorado almost no one carries 11 and 12 inch wiper blades. Even Walmart, and I am desperate when I go there. Unless they are for a rear wiper which has the wrong setup for a YJ.

There is a disturbance in the force

The brotherhood is weakening. Here in Jacksonville we wave, knod, throw a peace sign, at the very least acknowledge eachother in some way. The only ones who don't are usually older, retired age guys... They just don't pay enough attention to notice the other Jeepers I guess.

On behalf of all Florida Jeep Wrangler owners and.

The brotherhood is alive and well in the South

As for wipers, if you have that much trouble, ordering a few sets at a time online would be my choice.

We in the NW also throw out a wave or something... In fact I remember my first wave from a guy in another YJ... I was confused at first but am a friendly sort and waved back.. not knowing that every wrangler and some cherokees wave at you! it's awesome to finally understand a part of the "its a jeep thing" Now, I am no longer confused when a fellow jeeper doesn't wave back, I will know they are from Colorado! HA
good luck on the wipers, The Walmarche' doesn't stock em here either.

In NJ & PA I notice that YJ drivers almost always wave, the TJ drivers are about 70% return wave and JK drivers are more like 40% wave return. I have also noticed that some of the those who don't return the wave have a cell phone held up to their ear. Perhaps that is why YJ drivers wave back, they can't use a phone while driving.

Yeah my wife complains because it is hard to talk on the phone and drive my Jeep. Between the Shift and the wind noise. I wouldn't know, since I haven't joined the mobile phone club.

More like we look forward to NOT being on the phone while enjoying the YJ experience.

Here in SC, people that don't have jeeps are more likely to wave then the jeepers. It's weird. But definitely agree about phones and driving it's over-rated!

In Utah you get the wavers and non wavers. It will all depend on where you are at, in some areas everyone will wave and in others you will get the finger. (Which I still classify as a wave.) haha

So true . All us with older Jeeps take pride and share it when we wave ( even rusty ones )

I drove from Delaware to Boston via Long Island this last weekend, waving like a looney to New & Old Jeeps alike. The further north, the less waves I got back. Good to be back in LSD where dang near every Jeeper waves. Course I'm driving a 2011 4-door "grocery getter" so I'm likely catching some of the Jeepers off-guard.

The wife thinks I'm nuts for waving and not getting waves back, but I told her that's not what it's about, I'm showing my appreciation for all other Jeeps on the road and hopefully the non-wavers will start waving!

Keep on wavin

Here in NC we usually get a return wave. As I understand it, there is a proper Jeep Wave. It entails raising 2 fingers on the left hand. The origin, as I understand it, started with the old CJ's. You couldn't release the steering wheel to wave without risk of losing control.

Im in Chicago and sort of got confused the first time I got a wave but I run bikes also and it's a norm (sort of) so I caught up quickly but nonetheless, it caught me off guard initially. I think its the same as With bikes - some do and some don't. I noticed that harley guys less likely to wave at anyone but another harley but sport bikes (me ) riders wave at every rider regardless. Reminds you anything? Some are more ignorant and puffed up than others.
Can't wait for the tops to come down should be more fun

Being normal is just crazy!

I'm in mobile alabama and we use to wave no matter what! But it's slowly fading away. No offense but more with the female jeepers. They tend to only hasn't jeeps cause they are "cute" and don't regard the true spirit or brotherhood of jeeps!

At 60mg:I had a sport bike and realized the same thing I think it's because the Harleys are just like the newer jeeps they are a fad thing and they don't understand the brotherhood thing.

And female jeepers never wave but their Disney princess stickers do lol

I have a jeep and a harley. I wave on both. On my Harley, I wave at anything on 2 wheels. When in a Jeep (we have a TJ and a JK), I wave at any CJ/YJ/TJ/JK model.

I almost always get waves back on my bike. Lately, I have had more waves from JKs than any other Jeep. But I still get waves more than half the time, I think.

I don't think I have seen any model more or less likely to wave. I think I have seen more people "dressed up" that don't wave. The ball cap, t-shirt, mud on the boots crowd almost always waves.

As far as female jeepers, my wife came home complaining yesterday that she was 0/3 on waves.

Edit: Sorry for invading the YJ forum , I saw this in the "Recent Threads" section and clicked....

NP but thanks for sharing I could agree with "... mud on the boots" statement although I'm myself drive it in some formal outwear more often than not, so job specifics, you know

Re: bikes the riders of harleys, over-30k-worth-of cruisers/choppers and honda gold wing's normally come off the most ignorant in regards to waving to anybody else but their own (well we know the reason ) but I don't mean to generalize so every crowd has its share of exceptions, same as with wranglers. No offense meant Folks! Spring is here. Enjoy the warmer days on all and any of your ponies

Here in Idaho I have noticed the same thing. I have got to where I don't even like waving because I know they wont even notice it. I don't think I have ever got a wave from a JK but even the TJ's and YJ's are far and few between.

Also, the wave is more used by the "CJ,YJ,TJ,JK" crowd. I have waved at XJ's and ZJ's without getting a response. None of the "other Jeep" crowd has ever waved at me.

Here in south Jersey all wave except the 4 doors. F them anyway they usually look like there stuck up people anyway. I wave any way to all. My wife complains too about talkin on the phone while Im drivin, thats its too loud she cant hear. So I got her skull candy ear buds to plug in the phone and her head. Problem solved for 12 bucks. Now she can hear and I dont get a headache from the complaining.

1/7 yesterday in the wife's JK. It was sad. In all, I initiated a wave and the last 4, in freezing rain, I had waved with my hand out the window. It was pretty sad.

Central Indiana here, 5/7 yesterday, got 3 non jeep waves but didnt count them. Around here everyone waves except the 4 dr. They are too good to associate themselves with the common jeeper, they are above that. I waved at a 4 dr last week and the guy came back to the gas station I was pulling into to ask what my problem was! LOL I just shook my head and said nevermind.

I'm in Maryland and I get about 80% waves back in my JK during the day. Overall, it's probably worse than that because I also wave at night (hey, I'm showing respect to the Jeep). And I'm not going to stop waving to my brothers and sisters in their Jeeps.

Being a misplaced Colorado boy, it makes me sad that my home state, which I consider to be very friendly, is falling short on this one...
