We have a digital dash kit now

My neighbor recently installed a version of this his Jeep, it looks pretty slick if you’re into that updated look.

Personally I enjoy the stock amber glow, but I figured some of you might like this.

I am not a fan but it's cool to see them supporting YJ's. My parents had a 91 Chevy Blazer with a digital dash in it and it was junk. The cluster never seemed to work right and was completely dead before it hit 100K. They had it rebuilt and it didn't even last another year before the speedometer went out again. They claimed it was because digital gauges did not like bumps and since it rode like a truck it would cause it to fail. I dont know if that is true or it was just typical GM garbage.

It is a pretty inexpensive option. Replacing your gauges with Autometer or Speedhut is going to cost you double that.

That's pretty cool, but will it work in jeeps prior to 92?

I’d imagine it could be made to work, there is an absence of the clock, and there could be sending unit hurdles.

That's kinda cool it sure would help my old man eyes see the gauges a lot better... LoL... I'll let somebody else be the test dummy... Got a LS conversion I'm saving for so $400 is out of the question right now.

It said that it comes with sending units so I suppose it would. I would be skeptical with the Speed sensor.

Scrolling down the description 92-95 application, guessing 87-91 is out due to speed sensor compatibility. since the earlier yrs "Ain't got none of that Fancy stuff."

The people that should know would be the manufacturer... Give them a call

Let's be real though. Other than in a school zone, is it ever really possible to speed in a 2.5L YJ?

Just as easy as 4.0 powered YJ. School zone or not.

I think the sarcasm was completely overlooked here.

1987-1990 YJs have a mechanical cable driven speedo. 1991 YJs have some sort of combo speedo drive. 1992 and newer YJs have an electronic speedo that appears to be compatible with the digital dash.

Since the digital kit comes with the necessary sending units, I'm guessing that a person could fit a 1992 or newer sending unit to an earlier transfer case and wire it in to work with the digital dash.

I'm an old buzzard that much prefers analog and mechanical gauges. The digital dash isn't anything I'd consider, but I can see where it'd be attractive to some YJ owners. Especially if they're having difficulties with their speedo, tach or gauges.

Good Luck, L.M.

It worked well like that after eating a dish of prunes. Kinda like the thing they put on horses for a parade.

That is interesting, I had what I thought a cooler speedometer in my jeep when I had that JB conversions ssye and aw4 combo:

Switched back to the mechanical and may go back to the electric if I figure out how to get past needing a chevy vss signal for the v8 ecu, maybe the JB conversions chevy vss SSYE?

That's pretty slick. I'm a little disappointed that they have a unit for each color, and not just a switch to change it yourself on the fly....

I might do that someday, but right now my gauges all work. I have other things in the Jeep to spend money on first as well.

...emptying those pockets...
