What kind of fluid goes in the slave cylinder

My clutch is getting soft and I was wondering if it just needs to be topped up on fluids. What kind of fluid does the slave cylinder take in a 91 yj

How far is the pedal from the floor when the clutch disengages. Most fluid clutches ' catch' fairly close to the bottom of the pedal travel....... & ONLY
Dot 3 brake fluid, don't use Dot 4 or 5 it won't mix---makes a big mess......
