I have a stock yj. 4" bl and running 33 12.50s. I want to re gear but not till i get a ford rear end.

What ford 8.8 do i want to find with disk brakes? That i can use till i get money to regear?

I someday will suspension lift and mod a lot more

4" body lift? Really?

It doesnt work that way as far as finding an 8.8 that will just bolt right in and you can run it. I dont think any of the ratios for Ford match with the ratios from Jeep.

Anyway, the Ford 8.8 that you are seeking is from a 96 to 01 Ford Explorer.

This. Also, look for one with 4.10s, because they may be what your looking for with 33s if you are a highway driver

The tag will be labeled with a...

D2 - limited slip & 4.10
42 - Open diff & 4.10
4L10 - limited slip & 4.10
4C10 - Open diff & 4.10

You can also find the 31 spline version in a 97+ mountaineer

Yet. Bought it with the lift. Its 3" pegs onto of the original body spaces.. Oh and yes. Iv read up on the reeling for the leaf perches. And the breaks. Does it matter if i switched to the 4.10 ford rear and still had stock Dana 30 front? I mean with 4x4ing will it hit?

The Ford Explorer 8.8-Inch Rear Axles

This site will explain more about the 8.8 and give you the axle codes. There are a couple of versions to it. My Yj came with 3.55 gears stock and so far to me that gearing is fine on the highway with 32-11.50-15s

depends on what ur gearing is if they match, i have 3:73's in my jeep, and i scored one with 3:73's LSD . there out there just gotta do some digging, also some for 8.8's are dif, some have fewer splines, as in a ford ranger? i think. stick to the explorers and mountners

Personally, If I was you, id ditch all 4" of your body lift and go spring over with Waggy springs, you can run 35s especially with an 8.8.

You want a 96 and newer solid axle Ford Explorer is what you want because of the width.

Here is a cheat sheet I made for weekends at the local Pick & Pull:

I thought someone might say that but at least copy some of the data and create a new thread. Its all gathered from various sources anyhow. It's like the whole trackbar removal thing, same questions week after week.

Are you sure you want the limited slip axle? you will have to replace the carrier to use any locker...
I picked up an open one so I can use a lock-rite.

Idk about that stuff just yet. I just automatically assumed limited slip would be better

It is until you want to buy a locker. With a LS carrier you only have a few options for a locker.
