Do you drive it on the street ever? If so the spool is definately out. Of the two options you listed I would definately pick selectable rear and auto front. I have ARBs fron and rear but my rig is my DD as well.

yes i do drive it on the street but only very short distances..money is a little tight right now thats why i considered the spool, and with that trip coming up i figured it would be the most capable off road..what combo would u do for under a grand?

I have a spartan locker in the rear and love it. Open front for now but I am considering a spartan for there too. You could most likley get two for aboot $500.

Check out baseline 4x4 on here. I got mine there and love it. They are local for me but would ship it easilly.

What rear axle do you have? Auto rear, selectable front but thats just based on that I live in a snowy climate. I know alot who will say selectable rear and auto front but they dont ever worry about snow. My experience has lead me to that you two best options for a auto locker are aussie and power trax no slip but seeing as your not dd'ing your Jeep any reputable auto locker would suffice.

I have a 8.8 rear and d30 front! And for now I don't have any plans for snow! How does the auto locker work? And how reliable is it for hardcore crawln?

The autolocker is exactly that. It locks when it needs to and then unlocks on turns.

With the 8.8 you will want the full case locker in the rear as the carrier is to weak for a drop in style like a lockright. I will be putting a detroit in mine when the time comes and a select one up front as I see snow driving here in the mid west.

I know you said you are short on funds but man, I love my Auburn ECTED electrically selectable lockers. Front and rear, 33s and 4.88, Ford 8.8. Just great.

not quite. an auto locker locks when torque is applied(aka, you hit the skiny pedal) and is unlocked when you let off.
