Wide stance on a 88 YJ

I am the second owner (or more) of a 88YJ. Looks like it has a 2.5 inch lift with 31 10.5's and looks good. But my tires are outside the wheel wells by about 2 inches. No spacers behind wheels and rims are 8 inch. Looks like the axels were switched, but how can tell what they are?

Post pics of the diff covers. But I'd bet they didn't switch axles to run a 2.5" lift and 31s, that'd be a waste of time and money. I'm guessing you just have offset rims.

agreed. I have a four inch lift on 31-10'50's. The rims are 15x8 jeep grand cherokee wheels. Although, my profile pic is the 33x12'50's

If you plan on going offroad stick with 31's cause 33's will need more room offroad.

Most guys with 2.5" lifts install a 1" body lift , and tj flares to open up the wheel wells and get more height. For 33's

I run 4.5" lift and 35's with TJ flares and sometimes I want to add a 1" bl to get more room in the fenders

Was looking, and I thought it looked like it has a BL too. If I post a pic, can you verify?

Do a 1" body lift, 1" Motor mount lift, and lose the Skyjacker TC drop. I just did this on Friday. What a difference in belly clearance. I'll be going to 33"s very soon with all the room I have under the fenders now.

Exactly 1" difference in belly clearance.

Skip the body lift, do an SYE then ditch TC drop.

Get springs/fenders to clear desired tire size.

$200 vs $600. Build your jeep for your needs is the bottom line
