Winch power disconnect

I'm thinking of setting up my winch on a receiver hitch so I can go front or back with it. We use these disconnects (Pic) on the electric Pallet Jacks at work, Got lugs for 0 to 2 gauge wire, and I'm thinking of adding one at the battery so I can just plug it into the leads off the winch, so I can take the Receiver Mount, front or back, or the kids can take it out with them when they go out and get stuck so I don't have to run anymore late night recovery runs. (Got no Idea why the young'uns nowadays can't do anything in daylight).

Anybody have any input or other method they've tried that works they would like to share?

This will be on a Smittybuilt XRC 9500lb winch. needs to be able to go up to 450 Amps on a heavy pull.

Those would be anderson power pole connectors.... pretty much the ONLY way to do what you want....

Keep in mind that loaning your winch out is a good way to end up w a destroyed cable and a smoked motor....

Absolutely Right!!! 15 years ago...It was nothing to come home to a half empty tool box, and nothing ever came back the way it left. Then I started making them replace everything they lost or destroyed with an upgrade, Now I find everything exactly where I left it, they got tired of replacing stuff and started taking care of it.

Thanks for the Validation on my wiring, Gonna run a set 0 ga. wires to both front and back bumpers so I can just plug in a set of Cables quick and easy.

Go ahead and install a marine battery switch at the battery...

That's a lot of 0 ga wire that could send you to a fiery grave in an accident.

Yeah, that's in the plans with a dual battery setup.

While we are on that subject, Blue sea systems 9001e battery selector is rated at 350Amp, it's currently the highest rated switch I am finding. Anybody see a need for anything stronger? Winch pull could be higher, but with short pulls from the winch I'm guessing that the switch would handle that.

That's 350 amps continuous.... you'll be fine...

Why dual batteries.... only gives you very little more winch time.... your winch needs cool down time anyhow while your alternator recovers....
Personally I'd go w a better alternator instead of dual batteries...

I am running the 2 position Blue Sea 9003e and i contacted Blue Sea about using it on a winch and they told me since it would not be under a continuous full load it would be fine.

Dual batteries for two reasons..

A. The Az. summers kill batteries at the most inopportune time

B. My son is not the only dipstick in the family that likes to leave his radio on and forget about it when we go shooting and stuff. I'd like to start leaving the jumpstarter at home.

You'll have no problem with the Bluesea switch. I went to a #4 cable from the alternator at the same time, routing it to the bat terminal on the switch. I don't have battery issues.
Anderson also has covers for the connectors.

I think I'd pull that switch and both shorten the lugs a little and also sandwich an insulator between it and the fender.

Been there for three years. There's more clearance than it seems in the picture.
