wiring help and advice wanted 89 wrangler

1989 bought for $300. Needed windshield, hood, engine, grill, and rear axle.
was a 2.5 has the ax5 and transfer case still in the jeep. Sitting in my garage area all from a 1997 xj, 4.0 with complete wiring harness, has the auto tranny and np231 transfer case. Rear axle is a ford 8.8 and I have the matching front axle. I have been searching threads unsuccessfully here and on other forms to answer the following questions: I want the gauges in the 89 to work using the 97 with the computer without rewiring the entire under the dash, is that possible? The xj has an auto, can use that to get this running but when I find a ax15 will the transfer case work or will it need changed? Is the auto the same lenght as the ax 15 or will drive shafts have to be changed? I know the easiest path is to find a 2.5 and put it back in.

im not familiar with the 97 but, if it has a computer controlled gauge cluster, then i am going to say no, it won't work with the 89 cluster... that cluster, (if it is like my1990) is all analogue... they get a signal direct from a engine mounted sensor that controls a 12v 'signal'.. as the voltage goes down so does the gauge needle...

computers use pulses, (0x and 1s), or on/off... and basically 'morse codes' it's message to meters/gauges...

anyways, I could be way, way off... but, Im thinking it would be easier to transplant the 97 cluster into the 89 dash... maybe?
