Woo Hoo - Axle Seal & Balljoints

Thought I had my rebuilt '90/'93 Jeep ready to roll but it flunked State inspection. I had my mitts on almost every other part of it over the winter but I never touched the front suspension. This will be my first crack at Jeep ball joints and D35 seals. Got the parts, got the BJ tool, happy to hear your horror stories so I don't repeat them.

I think Ball Joint should I was be writen out... I got really excited when I read you got a BJ tool, and my first thought was they make those???

Then I reread your post and realized I have one in my garage and it wasn't as exciting anymore...

What have we got?

Upper ball joint was a breeze with the tool from autozone but the lower isn't moving yet. I know it presses out through the bottom but the mechanic who flunked me said you have to insert the tool through the hole for the upper joint to press out the lower and my FSM shows the tool fliipped upside down with the shaft threading toward the ball stud. I can't really figure out how to set the puller up to do it his way. Any advice?

I had to heat my axle a little to get the originals to pop out....years ago.Try this.... put a little pressure on the ball joint then smack beside the ball joint with a hammer...a little more pressure then smack again. You will be able to tell if it is comoing out...don't beat the crap out of it...just a smack.

Am I correct that the lower in a '90 has no snap ring on top (it's in the box) and doesn't use the split bushing (also included) in the knuckle? I think the extra parts are only for '87-'89.
