Yj door hinges

How do I fix a sagging door on my 1990 YJ? The door hinges have some “play” in them that allow the door to sag. If I lift the rear of the door , it latches correctly. Can the hinges be fixed with new bushings or pins? Thanks!

Bushings can be replaced if the pin is not worn out. I used Delrin replacements they were pricey but worked well. I think Omix-ada or one of them company's makes replacement steel insets like the factory used.

I have same issue but can’t see evidence of any bushing being in the hinges.

OEM hinges all hive liners aftermarket hinges like stainless steel do not. Hinges changed over the year and i had an oddball hinge that was machined half way down and i had to drill it out.

Have you tried loosening the hinge and adjusting it? There is enough adjustment to adjust out for a little bushing play. I would try that before spending $$$ on new hinge kits, painting, etc.

I would not try to adjust the hinges on the door, if you do, you will see a gap in the paint and it will show the primer. Door hinges were adjusted before painting. I bought hinge sleeves to replace the old ones, they come with a extract and install tool.

Yj door hinges

Thanks to everyone for your responses. My yj is 1990 and I do not see any indication of a hinge liner used in the hinges. I’ve seen hinge liners claimed to fit YJs. I purchased a set from E bay and they are too large. I think that the YJ hinges may have changed in the later model years. I will look again at the Delrin liners that you suggested. If they will work on my 1990 I will purchase them. I am hesitant to move the hinge mounting points on the body because It looks like the body was painted after the hinges were attached. Thanks again. John

I’m having same issue with doors sagging. Still OE hinges on my 1990 Yj , not a fan of adjustment of them as the paint will chip or show you have moved them. I can’t tell if there’s a liner bushing in the hinges. But I do know they are oe hinges. Wondering if any one has attempted to replace and is so any issues with them? What brand to avoid? I know derlin is $$ and recommended.
Thanks in advance for any input. What to get this done before winter sets in.

I have an 88 with as far as I can tell, Factory door hinges. They do not have any inserts, nor do the delrin inserts I bought fit in the holes.

Hinge liners are hard to see they are painted over. I never knew they had liners until i seen the delrin liners for sale and i started looking at how the hinge was made. After i put them in it took all of the slop out of my doors and they shut like they did when it rolled off the assembly line. The only hinges that do not have liners are aftermarket.

I purchased those same brass colored inserts on eBay. They don’t fit!! I don’t see any evidence of bushings ever used on these hinges. Here is what I did to fix my slight door sag. I removed the door, cleaned and greased the hinge and installed a thin washer in each hinge pin which raised the rear of the door. Not a proper fix, but now my door lines up with the latch on the door pillar.

Thank you
Did you put washers on all 4 pins ?

I haven’t tried that, I’ve put rubber edging around my doors and replaced striker latch pin.

Kind regards

You have to pull the old liners out for the new liners to fit i dont see what is so hard to understand about this. If you have factory hinges you have liners.

Nothing hard to understand there’s just no evidence of a liner in my factory hinges.

Yes I placed washers on all four pins. If you get the right width, you cannot tell the washer is there.
To the other posting which states that all OEM hinges had liners. I think you are incorrect. I have the shop manual and there is no mention of liners used on the hinges. Later YJs used liners. My 1990 YJ has no liners. The ones I purchased from EBay would not fit even if I had liners. The inside diameter of the e bay liners is 1/8 inch wider than my OEM hinge pin.
